Fashion label Boss by Hugo Boss is a renowned leader in the market. From its humble beginnings as a clothing line in 1924, it has grown to become a leading force in the globe. It was founded by Hugo Boss in Metzingen, Germany where it struggled to stay afloat, at some point going under due to economic hardships in Germany at the time. However, Hugo Boss got back on his feet again and with the Nazi uprising, which he joined, he got a huge contract as a supplier, thus stabilizing his business. He passed on in 1948, leaving behind a business that would later grow to great heights in the fashion industry.

Originally, the Boss fashion line specialized in menswear, which included shirts, suits, jackets, trousers and sweaters. Later, the company launched ladies clothing line too, followed by a children’s clothing line. The main line, popularly known as Boss Black, designs clothes for both social and business wear. Specific segments of the company are dedicated to designing specific styles, from premium labels and sophisticated designs to sports gear. In all designs, Boss remains a trendsetter in the fashion world. With the clothes come all manner of accessories. There are Hugo Boss shoes, hats, belts, scarves, gloves, sunglasses and watches.

Aside from the clothing line and accessories, Hugo Boss has other accredited products, particularly cosmetics and perfumes for both men and women. The cosmetics range of products includes skin care products; make up and hair products. Hugo Boss perfumes are particularly popular. They come in a range of colognes, eau de toilette, deodorant spray, deodorant sticks, shower gels, and different types of after-shave. The distinct Hugo Boss label stands for class, a sense of style and fashion.

From its base in Europe, Hugo base has expanded to establish a presence in at least 110 countries across the globe. With the economic crisis in Europe however, the fashion label has also suffered its fair share of the crunch. In Europe, sales went down in 2009, the year when the economic crisis was most hard-felt even in other sectors. In the other continents, specifically the Americas, Asia and Pacific, there has been recorded growth in sales over the last year, with growth rates ranging between 2 and 5 per cent. Hugo Boss hopes to continue enjoying good returns and so far, the year looks promising. It currently has a significantly higher operating cash flow compared to last year, a development attributable to the good inventories in place.

Like any other business, the company has been through business turmoil over the years. For instance, it faced stiff opposition when it proposed a pay cut for all its workers in its Ohio plant last year because the plant was not competitive. The alternative would be to close down the plant. However, this may not happen after all, as long-held talks seem to have borne some fruit- to keep the plant open on condition that rates per hour be reduced from $13 to $10. Well, even through the storms of business, Boss by Hugo Boss continues to delight our wardrobes with new and ever fresh gear.
